Un-bricking an Acer aspire one

My workmate’s Acer aspire one recently bricked (the term was new to me: it means it could only be used as an actual brick). It seems to be some kind of bios issue, he was able to un-brick it using this method (in Spanish), which used information from this other one (in English). The comments are also interesting, e.g. the one describing a second method that sometimes works…

 

 

The first method is complicated (bios in a USB stick). The second is easy:

  1. ensure battery has some charge & is properly inserted
  2. remove power adaptor, hard disk drive & memory module
  3. press power button & wait a few seconds
  4. hold button down to fully power off
  5. reinsert memory, hard disk & power adaptor
  6. press power button
