Ghibli films – a summary

I have now watched most Studio Ghibli major pictures. What an amazing cinematic experience, thanks to some friends who took a copy of Totoro on a trip.

Here’s a list of movies I have enjoyed, with some relevant info: my personal rating, the age from which I think children can endure them, plus the age from which children may enjoy them (very different concepts).

About the rating: these movies are excellent, so a grade of n actually means 8+n/10 on a 0-10 scale. I.e. 0 still means 8 (none of these movies fall below this), 5 means 9, 10 means 10.

Notes:

  • I know, this table looks strange. I copied a table from wikipedia, pasted it in google docs to modify it, then pasted it here. Some links have survived (to film directors), and some weird formatting, but I don’t mind that much.
  • Sorry because you have seen them all? There is also some more anime that is close to Ghibli.
